Many skating rinks are offering Michigan homeschoolers special skating sessions. Have fun and get great exercise with friends roller skating or inline skating. Look for a participating rink near you.

Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources provides info on state forests, land, water, wildlife, habitat, camping, recreation, fishing and hunting.

Antrim County

Cass County

Swiss Valley Ski Area offers Home Schoolers' Special during the ski season. Located in Jones, MI, Swiss Valley is the closest Michigan ski area to Chicago and Indiana, just 9 miles North of the Michigan Indiana border. Call 269-244-8016 for details.


Eaton County

Eaton County Homeschool Organization (ECHO). Michigan homeschool volleyball for girls 5th grade and up. They are also the host team for Michgian homeschool state tournaments. For more information contact Mary Smith or 517-543-4052.


Ingham County

LAHAA (Lansing Area Homeschool Athletic Association) is a Christian group offering homeschool athletics for boys and girls.  contact: Bob Delaney 517-541-9352.

Suburban Ice-East Lansing offers a Learn to Skate program. Summer program can be accessed from their website.


Livingston County

Homeschool Ski Club - Mt. Brighton during the ski season. Please contact Lillie Chont at 810-227-5963 for more information.

Horse-drawn Sleigh Ride at Kensington Metro Park, Milford. Horsedrawn sleighrides or hayrides, weather permitting, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The Farm Learning Center you can walk down the farm lanes and get a feel of farm life. Meet the animals, including horses, cows, ducks, sheep and pigs, and tour the barns, including a 150-year old restored horse barn and a poultry house. Howell Athletic Association of Christian Homeschoolers (HAACH) http://www.haach.org is an organization created to serve the athletic needs of homeschooled children in the greater Howell, Brighton, Pinckney area. Universal Lanes presents Bowling For Home Schoolers. Home schoolers earn Physical Education Credits while enjoying America's favorite participation sport. This is offered during the public school season. Phone: 586-751-2828.

Oakland County

H.A.L. (Homeschool Athletic League) is an affordable introduction to a variety of sports including Tennis, Basketball, Dance, Golf, Ice Hockey, Figure Skating, Volleyball and lots more. All classes are held in the centrally located city of Southfield.

Homeschool Bowling at Classic Lanes, 2145 Avon Industrial Drive, Rochester Hills, located west off Crooks between M-59 and Hamlin. This is offered during the public school season.

Sledding at The Fridge in Waterford. It's to sledding what the Concorde was to flying. Michigan's only refrigerated toboggan run. Toboggans provided and transported by parks staff. Up to four riders swoosh down a 55-foot drop, and zip along 1,000 feet at speeds in excess of 30 miles per hour. Must be 30 inches tall to ride. Children under 43 inches tall must be accompanied by an adult. Old and/or washable outerwear is recommended. Mittens or gloves must be worn. Scarves and loose clothing must be tucked in before riding. Lookout Lodge warming building with fireplace, restrooms, concessions, TV sets and viewing areas.

Berkley Ice Arena Youth offers ice skating Every other Tuesday morning, beginning November 1, 2005 9:30-11:20 am. Cost is $2.00, Adults $3.00, Skate rentals $1.00, If lessons are wanted, there is a one time fee of $5.00. They are located 2300 Robina, Berkley, MI 48072, two blocks west of Coolidge, 1/2 blocks south of Catalpa. For more information: 248-546-2460.

The Suburban Sports Group manages 3 homeschool friendly ice arenas in Michigan plus 4 locations for Lunch Skates. These are all good programs from a physical fitness standpoint, and the Learn to Skate program is the starting point for anybody who wants to get involved in hockey or figure skating. Check the location nearest you for Summer Classes. Have fun ice skating by choosing from any of the four facilities:

    Multi-County

    Michigan Shock Basketball Club provide young females the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball at a highly competitive level. They offer a program, which will develop and improve individual as well as team skills, promote good sportsmanship, team spirit, and encourage club loyalty.

    Multi-County Religious

    C.H.A.S.E. (Christian Homeschool Association for Sports Excellence) serves the counties of Saginaw, Tuscola, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, and Oakland. A new Christian group wanting to provide organized sports opportunities. The following league sports will have open sign-ups from September 7, 2004 through November 29, 2004: Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball, Boys' Wrestling, and Girls' Volleyball.

    SUMMIT Sports Club is a Christian homeschool athletic program that began in 1994 to provide junior and senior high school-age students with the opportunity to participate in competitive team sports. Teams are selected through a try-out process and compete with Christian schools in the Metro Detroit area and participate in local, regional, and national homeschool tournaments.
