They are very welcoming to someone returning to active playing or the professional or semiprofessional musician. Musicians do not have to live in Clarkston. Musician - Thornetta Davis Detroit Institute of Arts Detroit International Jazz Festival The 28th Annual Detroit International Jazz Fest is Labor Day Weekend, 2008. Detroit Opera House Detroit Symphony Orchestra Max M. Fisher Music Center opened October 2003 Fox Theatre Freedom Hill Amphitheater an outside venue open seasonally. Interlochen Center for the Arts engages and inspires people worldwide through excellence in educational, artistic and cultural programs, enhancing the quality of life through the universal language of the arts. Meadow Brook Music Festival outside venue open seasonally. Midland Performing Arts Society, active in Midland since 1947, continues to provide the Mid-Michigan area with world-famous professional entertainment. They have presented notable entertainers, conductors, soloists, symphony orchestras and ballets. Oakland University offers private lessons, theory workshops and children’s classes. UM School of Music - Youth Programs - MPulse At Michigan this motivating force is MPulse Ann Arbor – a summer phenomenon on the University of Michigan campus carrying high school students to exciting new levels of excellence in Music Performance, Music Technology, Musical Theatre, and Dance. University Musical Society (UMS) With a program steeped in music, dance, and theater, UMS hosts approximately 75 performances and 150 free educational activities each season.
